Coach Sergio Silva began his swimming journey when he first came to Roma, TX from Monterrey, N.L. in 2001. He joined the Roma High School Swimming & Diving during his sophomore year. During his first year with his team he managed to learn to swim and qualified to the 2003 4-A Regional Swim Meet in the 100 yd Backstroke. Unfortunately, during his junior year while swimming the 100 yd backstroke at a local meet, he suffered a dislocated right shoulder injury which would take him out of the pool for 6 months. During that time Coach Sergio began to do research on his own about the other specialty strokes and thats when he and his coach discovered Sergios talent in the breaststroke. At the end of his senior year, Coach Sergio had set school and district records in the 100 yd Breaststroke and the 200 yd IM. In 2005 he was the #1 4A-Breaststroker in the Rio Grande Valley and finished fifth the 2005 4-A Regional Swimming and Diving Team. He has been coaching at the Roma Aquatic Club for six years and was designated as the stroke and technique instructor. Coach Sergio has helped swimmers qualify for STAGS and reach finals. He is working on his Bachelors degree in Computer Information Systems at South Texas College. He is currently coaching the black team.
